Hawaii has 3 back to back Category 4 Hurricanes that are heading it's way through the Pacific within days of each other. Fortunately, they have changed direction to go to the eastern side of the island by about 200 miles. While that seems like a safe distance, we have still gotten crazier than normal storm activity first from Kilo last week, Ignacio earlier this week and still passing, and the impending Jimena. The east facing shores are typically fairly calm. For a few days this week they were calling for up to 15 ft waves and we just had to go check it out.
Driving along Kamehameha Highway on the east coast, portions of road are being worked on due to the continuous pounding of waves against the coast where the road butts up against the only 2 lane highway in the area. In many places water and sand is seen on the road where water has splashed or come ashore.
